Job Description
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the laboratory, with direct involvement in the quality management system, document preparation and review, accreditation processes, analytical performance, and the implementation of a safe laboratory environment. The director will also oversee the laboratory manager who will advise on staffing and oversee the daily smooth running of the laboratory. The director will also oversee the infection control and sterilization protocols must be followed to minimize these hazards. The director will also be available for consultations with the care team regarding laboratory tests and results. The laboratory director will also act as the technical consultant where needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the Laboratory Manager and staff who:
- Provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses.
- Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood and urine.
- Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
- Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies
- Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests made by other members of the clinical team
- Prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Maintain inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in any accreditation process such as JCI and CAP.
- Perform ongoing maintenance of tests and equipment
- Participate in the proficiency testing program.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect the clinic by keeping information confidential.
- Adhere to all laboratory and GluCare policies and procedures.
- Prepare specimens for referral if needs arise following local and international regulations and defined procedures.
- Other tasks as delegated by the laboratory director
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology with at least 2 years of experience.
- Holds a DHA practice license
- Fluent in English
- Skill in fine, precise manipulation of equipment and materials
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment while working with high-expectation patients
- Advantage: Experience in a CAP/ ISO/ JCI accredited laboratory
